Special Needs Furniture Inc. designs and builds furniture according to an individual's special needs. We work with parents, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other professionals to build the best special needs furniture.
The business was founded in 1992 by Bill Thompson due to the overwhelming demand for custom equipment needed at home being used by families during visits to children's rehabilitation hospitals.
Bill began building custom special needs furniture for families who could not locate the right equipment to make daily living easier. Bill designed and through trial and error, fine-tuned the construction techniques and joinery of adjustable chairs, matching tables, custom beds, standers, corner seats and other custom built equipment which is still being used today.
Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital located in Toronto, is Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital and is where it all began.
The business has evolved and Bill's nephew, Dave Wright took over the business in 2012. Upon Bill's retirement, Dave incorporated Special Needs Furniture Inc. in 2016.
With clients all across Canada and the United States, Special Needs Furniture Inc. continues building and uses Bill’s techniques and designs. All products are made with solid hardwood and birch veneer plywood. Table tops are raised on four sides (excluding cutouts) and legs are adjustable so that our products can grow with the individual. Each piece is custom made to order.
